The Collected Writings of Moshe Reines Kickstarter
Moshe Reines was a polymath: Talmudist, Hebraist, historian, investigative reporter, social commentator - a prolific and influential thinker, writer, and author. The son of Rabbi Yitzchok Yaakov Reines, Moshe Reines died tragically in 1891 at the astonishingly young age of twenty-one. The obituary which appeared in Hamagid had this to say about the young Reb Moshe z"l: "He excelled amazingly in his absolute mastery of Shas..."
The volume awaiting printing is approximately seven-hundred pages. It is filled with fascinating material on the burning issues of 19th century Russian Jewry, from the politics surrounding the founding of the famed Kovno Kollel to the financial problems of the Volozhin Yeshiva, from the challenge of Rabbonus in a changing world to controversial methods of studying Gemara, from the question of Haskalah to the promise of Zionism. These are issues we still grapple with today, and R' Moshe addressed them all with courage, verve, sensitivity, and wisdom beyond his years. He wrote in an engaging style in magnificent Hebrew, sparking debates in the periodicals of the day.
We are on the cusp of going to print, but the costs are obviously much higher than originally anticipated. Printing costs alone exceed three thousand dollars, and that does not include the costs of scanning hundreds of pages
